This was a very anxious track. From writing the beginnings of it on a tour, to recording it during Covid-19 as safely as possible, to putting it out now.

Bastards sing, bastards cry
You’ve heard it all before
Life is cold when you need warmth

I’ve heard through the grapevines
Lies can always be justified
I heard I’m doomed to fail
With little room to dream inside this hell

Break every mirror I pass
Try to let the past be the past
But I feel the haunt in every room
“Kill the trauma let love bloom”

I repeat and repeat those words
Trying to gain some self-worth
If this mountain is meant to be climbed
I’ll ascend through the darkest nights

Hung around until the promise broke
Dwelled on every lie you spoke
Opened my eyes to the truth
I can’t breathe life into you

Learned my lesson with this mistake
Not all I love is gold and pure
I cling to the future and what it might hold
Hoping the climb finds me a home

Trying my best to ignore the strife
That has taken ahold of my life
Bury the dead and say goodbye
Before the raven tears the good from my eyes

As the raven feasts upon the dove
I can’t remember what’s left to love
Truth clipped the wings I formed
Now I climb while the ravens soar

Love built by cruel intentions
Finding ways to fool me
But now I must accept the failure
I’ve led the doves to the slaughter

I climb and climb
Until you’re out of sight
That failure we made
Dies with you

I can’t let this drag me down
As I wait for the good to come out
False hope can always be found
In any bastards cry
